Em 1885\/86, levantamento da pesca no Tejo, Baldaque da Silva (1891)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNa zona do estu\u00e1rio a que corresponde o Mar da Palha existiam na \u00e9poca tr\u00eas comunidades importantes: Seixal, Barreiro e Aldeia Galega(Montijo). Estas eram as comunidades verdadeiramente estuarinas que ent\u00e3o havia, pois raramente saiam para o oceano ou se dirigiam para montante\u00a0de Vila Franca, dedicando-se ao arrasto ou ao cerco (designa\u00e7\u00e3o ent\u00e3o utilizada para os tapa-esteiros) na zona \u201c<\/p>\n

* Aqui\u00a0como noutros locais, todas as formas de arrasto levantaram (e levantam) problemas, havendo not\u00edcias de conflitos e de cartas r\u00e9gias reguladoras sobre diversas formas de arrasto no Tejo pelo menos desde o s\u00e9culo XV (tamb\u00e9m sobre tapa-esteiros, que persistiram no Tejo at\u00e9 aos anos 1980).<\/p>\n

A Arte do Cerco<\/strong><\/p>\n

A arte de pesca artesanal conhecida por \u201ccerco\u201d, estacada\u201d ou \u201ctapa-esteiros\u201d, \u00e9 uma arte com muitos s\u00e9culos de vida, que foi praticada pelas comunidades piscat\u00f3rias que viviam nas diversas vilas localizadas no\u00a0estu\u00e1rio do Tejo.<\/p>\n

\"\"No Barreiro, a comunidade piscat\u00f3ria exerceu esta actividade at\u00e9 ao S\u00e9culo XX, mais concretamente, at\u00e9 meados dos anos 80.<\/p>\n

De Maio a Outubro, o cerco era armado na praia. As redes eram montadas em varas, espetadas no solo, numa camada argilosa, a que se chamava \u201csal\u00e3o\u201d ou sol\u00e3o. Ficavam semi-enterradas na areia, durante a baixa-mar.
\nDurante a preia-mar, as redes eram levantadas e esticadas, a partir de uma embarca\u00e7\u00e3o especial, que tinha o nome de: \u201cCanoa das Redes\u201d.
\nNa mar\u00e9 vazia, recolhia-se o pescado que tinha ficado cativo nas redes.<\/p>\n

Peixes do Estuario do Tejo<\/strong><\/p>\n

O Rio Tejo possu\u00eda uma riqueza natural, em termos de recursos piscat\u00f3rios, oferecendo uma variedade de peixe e marisco, cuja captura tinha uma enorme import\u00e2ncia na vida da comunidade, principalmente a n\u00edvel econ\u00f3mico, pois constitu\u00eda uma fonte de rendimento para os pescadores locais.
\nO rio era rico em:(nas imagens) linguado,<\/strong> corvina, enxarroco, ca\u00e7\u00e3o, robalo, enguia<\/strong> e ainda safio, tainha, lambujinha, camar\u00e3o mouro, ostras, etc.<\/p>\n

O \u201cBico do Mexilhoeiro\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

O \u201cBico do Mexilhoeiro\u201d, nome atribu\u00eddo \u00e0 zona ribeirinha onde predominavam os pescadores, indicia a presen\u00e7a no local, de \u201cmexilh\u00e3o\u201d e outros moluscos.
\nEra igualmente um local rico em ostras. Acredita-se que, devido \u00e0 polui\u00e7\u00e3o provocada pelo Complexo Industrial da CUF, vieram a desaparecer ao longo dos tempos.
\nA polui\u00e7\u00e3o, foi de resto, a causa principal que conduziu ao desaparecimento de v\u00e1rias esp\u00e9cies e ao decl\u00ednio da actividade nas comunidades piscat\u00f3rias da zona do Mar da Palha, no estu\u00e1rio do Tejo.<\/p>\n
