Praticamente toda a ind\u00fastria e com\u00e9rcio est\u00e3o parados!<\/p>\n<p>As frentes dos manifestantes v\u00eaem-se sobretudo mulheres, a Maria Augusta, a Maria Ramalha, oper\u00e1rias t\u00eaxteis e corticeiras, mas tamb\u00e9m costureiras e dom\u00e9sticas. Entre elas, por\u00e9m, destaca-se uma figura franzina mas cheia de determina\u00e7\u00e3o, rapidamente promovida a porta-voz no contacto com o com\u00e9rcio ou com as obras. Maria Pintainha, pela sua coragem e esp\u00edrito combativo, tornou-se um s\u00edmbolo das mulheres barreirenses!<\/p>\n<p>Ao princ\u00edpio da tarde chegou um comboio com guardas-republicanos, vindos de \u00c9vora, capitaneados por Homero de Matos, o c\u00e9lebre Olho de Vidro, e logo depois, um comboio com militares de Set\u00fabal.<\/p>\n<p>De imediato come\u00e7aram as persegui\u00e7\u00f5es, as correrias as \u00e0 frente dos cavalos, os espancamentos, as pris\u00f5es.<br \/>\nO Barreiro est\u00e1 em p\u00e9 de guerra, ocupado militarmente!<\/p>\n<p>A manifesta\u00e7\u00e3o divide-se ent\u00e3o em v\u00e1rios grupos, seguindo um deles para Alhos Vedros, formado por trabalhadores que moram nos arredores. A\u00ed, ir\u00e3o conquistar a ades\u00e3o do sector corticeiro e, numa ac\u00e7\u00e3o espectacular, far\u00e3o parar o comboio do Algarve.<\/p>\n<p>No centro da vila, em pleno parque, um numeroso grupo protesta contra a invas\u00e3o militar. O esbirro que comanda a guarda a cavalo, que entretanto cercara o parque, manda carregar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>O massacre parece iminente, mas, no frenesi, ao tentarem saltar os arbustos, alguns cavalos e guardas caem.
